Why You Shouldn’t Be Nervous About Implant Surgery

For some people, simply hearing the words “dental implant surgery” is enough to send them into a panic. The prospect of any type of surgery can be daunting, but you can rest assured knowing there is nothing to fear. Implant surgery is a straightforward procedure, and it is only performed by the most highly-skilled professionals.

You Are Given Anesthesia

Implantation involves a titanium screw being placed in your jaw bone so that an abutment and crown can be placed on top at a later date. This does involve surgery, but your dentist will provide you with an anesthetic beforehand. At the bare minimum, the surgical site will be numbed so that you do not experience any discomfort. However, if you are prone to feeling overly anxious in the dentist’s chair, then something stronger can be given.

The Procedure Is Planned Out in Great Detail

Dental implant surgery is not something done on a whim. Your dentist will use X-rays and CT imaging technology to plan out the surgery. Everything is mapped out ahead of time, so when the time comes to actually make incisions, the dentist knows precisely what he or she is doing.

There Is Little Discomfort Afterward

After the surgery is complete, you will have nothing to worry about. This procedure has a success rate of over 95 percent. Additionally, the surgical site heals quickly. To help you out during these few days, your dentist will prescribe you a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory drug to reduce the likelihood of there being any complications.

Once the implant has thoroughly fused with the bone tissue, you are ready to get your crown, and your restoration will be complete. Dental implants are some of the most durable restorations available, and they are definitely worth considering. Talk to your dentist about dental implant surgery to see if it is right for you.
